The right plant
Not all vegetable plants can easily grow indoors except a few such as spinach or lettuce but only if the correct setup is created for them. Smaller vegetables plants such as different kinds of herbs can easily survive indoors in a much cooler temperature. Tomatoes, peppers and those vegetables that can be grown indoors but need lots of heat and light. They also need a lot more investment in planting with the proper equipment and as well as the electricity that is going to be needed to grow them inside. But if you do decide to grow tomatoes or peppers you can also plant some cucumbers at the same time as they can easily grow with the same type of condition needed for the tomatoes and peppers.
Soils & containers
Herbs or leafy vegetables both can be grown in different pots which can be 4 to 5 inches. But containers would be needed for vegetables such as the peppers and tomatoes and should be around one to two gallons. For even larger vegetables a 5 gallon container is needed so that the roots can properly grow within it. The ideal recommended soil that should be used is fertilome or espoma as they are better for drainage and aeration.
Seeds or starters
Seeds can be bought for growing most vegetables but if you want to grow herbs then the best option is to get beginner plants especially if growing in the winter. It is always recommended to firstly read the instructions properly that are provided on the seed packet before you can plant them. You can start planting the seeds in almost anything from egg cartons, paper cups to nursery starter trays. What you have to remember is that it should be filled by soil-less mixture and always follow the recommended depth given on the packet.
The most difficult and complicated part of growing a vegetable indoors is to know the exact amount of light that the plants would need, as many plants need a lot while other hardly need any. When setting up the light two main things should always be kept in mind, one is the color of the light while the second is the intensity of the light. Different plants have different reactions based on the color and intensity of the light.
One of the most important things that an indoor gardener should always remember is the amount of water and fertilizer that should be used.
